WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Turtle Back Zoo 'Holiday Lights Spectacular' is going on from 5-9 p.m. every weekend now through the end of January. Admission is free, and visitors are greeted at the entrance by Rudolph, the most famous reindeer of all.
The 'Holiday Lights Spectacular' is sponsored by Covanta Energy, Essex County Parks Foundation, McLoone's Boathouse, Prudential Financial, PSE&G, and the Zoological Society of N.J.
The first weekend of December saw a steady flow of families wanting to see the rainbow of colors illuminating the evening sky and animals.
"We came to see the lights and some of the animals and take our picture with this reindeer," said Ken Douglas of Bloomfield, who came to the zoo with his wife and two children as they stood next to Rudolph.
The zoo is collecting non-perishable food, winter coats and unwrapped new toys for the needy each evening of holiday lights.
