The Chathams may finally see the first accumulating snowfall of the season this weekend, but you might not want to get out your sleds just yet.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch, including hazardous weather conditions, for Chatham Borough and Chatham Township for early Saturday. According to the NWS, there is an 80 percent chance of precipitation with snow falling mainly after 1 a.m. and accumulating 1 to 3 inches.
Snow is expected to continue until about 2 p.m., at which point the NWS predicts sleet and snow will begin to fall. The total accumulation predicted is between 3 and 5 inches.
The weather is expected to calm Saturday evening, but Sunday night, the NWS is predicting freezing rain and sleet before midnight and possibly continuing until 3 a.m.
Chatham Patch will continue to update this story as the weather develops, and we welcome our readers to submit photos of the snow.
