While this site–and, its editor–did not join the Morristown landscape until the summer of 2010, it has definitely wormed its way into our hearts. So, for that, bravo.
That said, with that love comes a certain feeling of obligation to give back sometimes. In the spirit of Patch's "Give 5" initiative (next up on Thursday), here are five ways we can all give back to Morristown right now.
You Need to Know About Your Blood:It's red, it keeps you alive, and it may also keep someone else alive someday. But, only if you donate it. Morristown Medical Center is more than happy to take some of that blood from you, either through whole blood donations (which can be given every 56 days) or via platelet donations (which can be given every two weeks, but the donation process can last up to 90 minutes). Check this out if you're interested.
You Need to Know About Puppy Love: Not everyone is prepared to adopt an animal. But, there are plenty of folks who may be able to provide foster homes on a temporary basis. 911 Dog Rescue, a new volunteer organization, is seeking people who can provide temporary foster homes for dogs while they look for "forever homes." Food and supplies are provided to volunteers for the dogs.
You Need to Know About Picking Up: One easy way to give back is to simply pick up–after yourself, others. Grab a leftover plastic shopping bag (and, a pointy stick if the thought of picking up someone else's stuff totally ish-es you out) and go for a walk. You're bound not to return empty handed (er, bagged). You may even need to take two bags. While it's not as high-profile as working the line at a soup kitchen, it's just as worthwhile.

"For Gordon Crawford:
Gordon made my experience as a first-time home buyer as stress free as it can be. He came highly recommended, and didn't disappoint. I had dealt with a couple of agents before I met Gordon, and both were a nightmare. Moving from Hoboken, Gordon introduced me and my fiancé to the Morris County area. He spent an exceptional amount of time pointing out the local hot spots, pros/cons of neighborhoods, and overall made me feel comfortable narrowing the search. His approach to finding the right home was refreshing, if not tedious, taking us to various listings to see a single detail we may like so he could narrow the search. He often would say, "I know this isn't the right place for you, but what do you think about the yard/kitchen/bedrooms/etc?". When the listing for the home we eventually bought came up, he immediately knew we'd like it.
Gordon walked us through the inspection, negotiation, and closing process. In the rare case when he wasn't able to answer the phone, Gordon's responsiveness was excellent as well. I love the home I'm in, but if I ever need a change, I hope to have Gordon as my agent in the future."
