Deer Proof Your Property

Deer Proof Your Property

Things you can do to make your property less inviting to deer:

  • do not feed the deer
  • remove bird feeders in the summer and keep them above deer height during the rest of the year
  • remove favorite deer plants such as hosta, lilies and tulips
  • spray deer repellents (available from garden centers or use a home recipe)
  • place deer netting over plants
  • when landscaping, use plants that are bitter, pungent, toxic or prickly (when food is scarce, deer will eat plants they usually find distasteful)
  • consider fencing, but contact the township Planning Dept. for information on placement and height
